Keirnan Street, Mundijong - located in the State electorate of Darling Range and in the Federal seat of Canning.

$75-100m.
Request of $30m from the Federal Government

Project Vision

To build a central community facility that will accommodate all sporting needs and provide valuable recreational and administrative spaces for community members  to meet in a friendly and  welcoming environment.

Current Land Use

State Government possession.  In-principle support from Labor State Government to transfer into Local Government possession.

Project Justification

The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale encompasses a current population of 27,654 people across an expansive area of 905km2. The Shire is set to experience further hyper-growth, with over 100,000 new people in the next 30 years. It is imperative that the Shire effectively plan for and enable the timely delivery of sport and recreational facilities to meet the needs of our changing community.

The Shire’s 'Health and Wellbeing Strategy' identifies that 70 per cent of the community members are overweight or obese, highlighting the importance of active lifestyles for both physical and mental wellbeing.

Current facilities are already at capacity or constrained, not meeting existing needs of the sporting clubs, and not being able to facilitate further membership. There is a need for a centralised community hub focused on the sports and recreation to address the current and future community’s needs and wellbeing.

Project Benefits

The project will increase community engagement and opportunities for residents to enjoy a healthy and active lifestyle close to home. Providing a central community hub, it will also assist in building a sense of community, where residents and visitors come together to engage and enjoy a sense of place.

How many ongoing estimated jobs will the project create?

  • 763 local jobs in the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale
  • 560 local jobs in sport and recreation and 203 local jobs in other industries
  • 393 jobs outside the Shire.
